Tim Hinton |
Tim Hinton is a composer and arranger writing for concert and marching bands. He also serves as a consultant for all aspects of marching shows, from show concepts to drill and color guard. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and his Masters from Georgia State University. Tim marched with the Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps of Rockford Illinois for three summers (1980-82). He also taught marching with the corps during the 1983 season, learning many techniques of drill writing and cleaning that still serve him well as a consultant and show designer. Tim is especially proud to have won the DCI Individual and Ensemble Competition on french horn in 1982, being the first person in DCI history to receive a perfect score of 100 in individual competition.Tim taught in the public schools for 10 years and developed a highly successful band program at Dunwoody High School in Dunwoody, Georgia. While there his bands consistently received superior ratings in concert and marching performances and his marching productions were heralded for their creativity and originality. Joseph H. Allison |
Dr. Joseph H. Allison is currently a Professor of Music, serving as Director of Bands and Graduate Conducting Activities, at Eastern Kentucky University. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education (French Horn) from East Tennessee State University, a Master’s Degree (Percussion) and the Doctorate in Musical Arts in Conducting from the University of South Carolina. Dr. Allison is the former Director of Bands at The University of North Carolina at Charlotte, Associate Director of Bands at East Tennessee State University, and Director of Bands at Sumter (SC) High School, Greenwood (SC) High School and Richmond County (NC) Senior High School. He serves as an adjudicator, clinician and consultant for concert, marching and jazz events throughout North America, Europe, and Japan.Dr. Allison has held professional affiliations with the Kentucky Music Educators Association (Board of Control), East Tennessee School Band and Orchestra Association, South Carolina Band Directors Association, College Band Directors National Association, Music Educators National Conference, National Band Association (Board of Directors), American School Band Directors Association, International Association of Jazz Educators, Percussive Arts Society (Advisory Board), The Conductor’s Guild, Drum Corps International Judges Guild (Executive Board), Bands of America (Advisory Board), Pi Kappa Lambda Honor Fraternity, Phi Beta Mu Honor Fraternity and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.During his 19 years of public school teaching, ensembles under Dr. Allison’s direction received consistent superior ratings in adjudicated events and performed regularly at significant regional and national events. During his tenure as Director, the Sumter Bands became the first internationally to be honored by the John Philip Sousa Foundation as laureates of both the Sudler Flag of Honor for concert excellence and the Sudler Shield for marching achievement. The Symphonic Band, Jazz Ensembles, Percussion Ensembles and Chamber Orchestra were all regularly featured in major regional and national settings.As an adjudicator, in addition to extensive concert band and jazz ensemble activity, Allison has judged the major competitions of the marching world: the Drum Corps International World Championships, and the Bands of America Grand National Championships, Winter Guard International, Drum Corps Japan, and the World Music Contests in Holland. He is the Founding Director and curriculum designer of the Kentucky Marching Band Adjudicators AssociationA laureate of Teacher of the Year at Sumter High School, Dr. Allison’s personal honors include the National Band Association’s “Citation of Excellence” and the John Philip Sousa Foundation’s “Sudler Order of Merit,” as well as achievement awards from both the International Association of Jazz Educators and the Percussive Arts Society. He has been listed in Who’s Who of American Educators, Outstanding Young Men of America, and was honored in multiple resolutions of the South Carolina State Legislature. Mary White |
Mary started her career in drum corps when she was eleven years old. As she was practicing her slide bugle, she looked outside and saw girls with flags. She asked if she could go out there, everyone gladly agreed! And so a color guard career was born.After marching in local Long Island drum corps, the Saint James Saints, The Long Island Kingsmen and Eastern Excelsior, Mary marched in the PAL Imperial Knights Colorguard. After moving to Florida, she began teaching local high school bands and judging local band shows and for the Florida Bandmasters Association. She continues to teach marching bands in North and South Carolina. She is an active adjudicator throughout the South. Winter guards she has taught include Beyond Imagination from Orlando, Lake Mary High School (WGI Gold and Silver medalists), Paradigm and the Alliance of Miami. She has been a staff member at the Colorguard Instructor Academy at the Bands of America Summer Symposium.Drum corps she has taught include Carolina Crown and Southwind.Her twenty five year career in public education began as a sixth grade reading and language arts teacher. She was an assistant principal at an elementary school and a high school. This is her fourth year as a principal at JD Parker Elementary School in Stuart, Florida. In addition, she facilitates the leadership interns for their Masters program at Florida Atlantic University. She lives with her husband Noel and a cat named Spooky. John Bogenschutz |
John Bogenschutz is a full time marching band composer and arranger for many bands across the country. As well as writing for marching band he has three published concert band pieces with Arrangers’ Publishing Company and Grand Mesa Music. John graduated from Northern Kentucky University with a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education, where he studied trumpet with Dr. Jon Gresham. He was an assistant band director for two years at Adair County High School in Columbia, KY where he learned a great amount of information from head director, Tim Allen. John left teaching to write music full time. In 1995 and 1996 he marched soprano with the Bluecoats Drum & Bugle Corps and then moved on to the Madison Scouts in 1997 and 1998. After aging out he taught brass at Southwind Drum & Bugle Corps from Lexington, KY from 1999-2003, and then the Blue Knights Drum & Bugle Corps from Denver, CO in 2006 & 2007.When John is not writing music he is drawing and creating Tone Deaf Comics which is a music comic about two band directors trying to run a band program without killing each other. John lives in Davenport, FL with his beautiful wife Shelley, his two sons Daniel and Jackson, and the world’s crankiest cat, Patch.
